ARCHITECTURE
Skigard
Hytte
This mountain cabin is elevated on 54 wooden columns, preserving the original landscape without grading or clearing. Native grasses grow beneath the structure and blanket the building’s roof, leaving the site with more greenery than it began with.
The columns are clad in skigard—long, narrow quarter-cut logs traditionally used by Norwegian farmers for fencing, a familiar feature in the surrounding farms.
In stark contrast to the rough-hewn exterior, the interior is meticulously detailed and proportioned. Everything is finished in wood and exactly 22 boards tall — walls, doors, windows, cabinets. The execution is exacting, yet the warmth of the materials creates a cozy interior to capture the vistas beyond.
